I say blog vomit just because there is this list of things for which I want to comment but don't want to devote an entire entry just to a one thing. And because there are plenty of disjointed thoughts.
1. If ever you want to let Sharon or me know about something, one of the funniest ways to do it is to ask either of us to keep it a secret from the other. We're both pretty terrible at keeping surprises. We've each pulled off a few good surprises (Sharon surprised me by taking me to a Cardinals-Cubs game IN St. Louis on my birthday senior year; I managed to keep our engagement a secret, somehow, inexplicably), but in general, we're not great at it. Tonight, Sharon finally cracked, a full month before my birthday, and told me she sold the tickets we had bought to see Wicked at the BJCC on April 11 (she was really really looking forward to this) to buy tickets for us to see Flight of the Conchords in Atlanta that same night! I was completely surprised and am now thrilled at this early-birthday gift... FOTC is one of our favorite groups, mostly because they are so funny and generally un-serious. Fun music is better than dumb music.
2. Scaled Back: I participated this year in Scale Back Alabama, which is a state-wide weight-loss program; the idea is for each participant to lose "10 pounds in 10 weeks" (actually 9 weeks, which I didn't realize until halfway through. Tricked!) We [voluntarily] formed teams at work; after the contest, a drawing will be held for cash prizes for team and individuals who complete the challenge. I "officially" lost 14 lbs., though in reality it was probably closer to 10 or 11 (I discovered that my shoes weigh about 4 lbs.). This was kind of a big deal for me since I gained a lot of weight in college and was subjected to a good deal of harassment over it from my mom, a few roommates, and myself. I was surprised I was able to accomplish this and a bit proud. Since the end of the contest a week ago, I've probably gained back about a pound, but now Sharon and I are going to try to repeat the feat-- our goal is to drop a few before our much-anticipated beach trip in May. :)
3. The other day, Sharon and I rediscovered Sam's Club. We have memberships that have paid for themselves through the gas station there and also their cheaper contacts (my ophthalmologist tried to sell me a 90-pack of contacts for $90, while the exact same pack at Sam's was $33). We have discovered, however, that their produce and other products are also good in value and very much an encouragement for us to buy in bulk.
4. I didn't really mean to pimp Sam's Club just then, because I really meant to say this following thing that was vaguely related to it: We walked into Sam's Club the other day and saw that they were showing the newly-released Disney's Pinocchio on their big-screens. We quickly released that our cat, Fuzz, is probably related to the character Figaro:
5. Cat personalities: I've never had real pets until now (the hamsters that my mom flipped out over don't count). I've come to realize that, non-human as they are, our pets in fact have their own personalities. Our older cat, Millie, is the prissy, picky, extremely well-groomed, clever, all-around dainty cat; our younger cat, Fuzz (pictured above) is the rowdy, sloppy, eat-anything, adventurously naughty, slobbish, mess of a cat. The only thing about her is, and I say it with all of the love of my heart, Fuzz is about as dumb as a brick. There are countless stories. But there you have it. Different personalities. A lot of joy.
Henry. I like your post. It is good to know that Sharon is alive through studying and that you guys are doing well - congrats on the weight loss! :) Hope to see you next week!
